The Birth Place Is Thriving!
October 18, 2021
Our new maternity unit, The Birth Place, opened in late August and it was a true labor of love. Since then, we’ve been busy welcoming new neighbors into the world.
Shortly after the opening, we celebrated the unit’s first baby — a healthy baby girl. The hospital and The City of Palmdale provided the family with many gifts. Sam’s Club® donated diapers and Palmdale’s William Edwards Photography provided a complimentary photography package.
By the end of September, 29 babies were born at The Birth Place, including some delivered by Cesarean section in our specially equipped operating rooms. “The recent opening of The Birth Place has brought many lives into the world,” said Richard Allen, Chief Executive Officer of Palmdale Regional. “We are moving full steam ahead to bring a high-quality, brand-new experience to mothers and their families in the Antelope Valley. We look forward to welcoming the next generation to Palmdale Regional.”
About The Birth Place
The 33,000-square-foot unit features 25 private patient rooms, six labor/delivery/recovery suites and two surgical suites. Obstetric physicians and in-house anesthesia services are available 24/7.
The Birth Place offers a comfortable, home-like setting, along with advanced technology and a skilled staff. The family-centered environment is designed to enable moms and their partners to spend that special time with the new baby before leaving the hospital. The first hour after the birth, known as the Golden Hour, is set aside for mom, baby and partner to enjoy uninterrupted bonding and skin-to-skin contact.
Dedicated labor and delivery nurses specializing in childbirth give moms the compassionate care they need to make the birth a positive experience. Trained medical professionals are ready in the newborn nursery for newborns requiring specialized care.
For Cesarean births, The Birth Place has two specially equipped operating rooms. The physician, a support person, and labor and delivery nurses stand by mom every step of the way.
