Enhancing Cancer Care in the Antelope Valley

March 27, 2022

cancer carePalmdale Regional Medical Center created an affiliation with City of Hope, one of the largest cancer research and treatment organizations in the United States, to better support cancer patients in the Antelope Valley.

City of Hope is among the leading innovators in cancer research, enrolling an average of more than 6,000 patients in clinical trials annually. Some of these patients will receive leading-edge clinical trials at nearby City of Hope in the Antelope Valley, where study participants pave the way for important breakthrough therapies in cancer.

Better Access for Patients

The goal of the affiliation is to combine City of Hope’s world-class cancer care and research expertise and Palmdale Regional Medical Center’s high-quality patient care to improve access for patients to advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment services.

City of Hope physicians will lend clinical leadership, as well as serve as medical directors for the surgical oncology and urology programs at Palmdale Regional. Palmdale Regional and City of Hope will also work together to train the physicians of tomorrow with a residency program.

City of Hope recently opened two offices on the Palmdale Regional campus where patients can receive urology care, medical oncology consultations and surgical services. The addition of these services will give residents closer access to these specialties without having to leave the area.

Dr. Amartej Merla, oncologist-hematologist at City of Hope, and Benjamin Gocke, Director of Business Development at Palmdale Regional, discussed the partnership on our podcast.
