Checking Out and Discharge

Checkout time is no later than 11 a.m., and your physician will order your discharge accordingly. The hospital admits and discharges many patients every day, so your room may be assigned to another patient shortly after you leave. If you find that your departure may be delayed, please tell your nurse as early as possible so that alternate arrangements can be made in preparing for new admissions.

To prepare for your discharge, the hospital staff will work with you to prepare for your return home. You will receive instructions about follow-up care, including diet, medications, level of activity and follow-up appointments with your physician. A nurse and physician will review these instructions with you. Please be sure to ask them about any concerns you may have. Medications can be filled at your neighborhood pharmacy. If you have any special needs such as home healthcare or home medical equipment, the Social Work Services Department can assist you during the discharge process.
